After almost three months of waiting, the old-gen versions of Hogwarts Legacy have finally been released on PS4 and Xbox One consoles. The graphics in this game can push the limits of even the PS5 when in quality mode with ray-tracing enabled, so naturally a lot of compromises have to be made to get the game running at an acceptable level on PS4.

We’ve got all the details on Hogwarts Legacy PS4 performance, comparing how it looks and performs compared to the current-gen.

If you want to know how the different modes on PS5 compare, check out our guide for fidelity vs performance mode. If you're diving into the game for the first time on PS4, then make sure you check out our Hogwarts Legacy walkthrough for all the guides you could ever need.

Hogwarts Legacy PS5 vs PS4 resolution

On the PS5, Hogwarts Legacy could run the game at 1440p in the right performance mode, giving you a crisp image.

As expected, on PS4 you’re going to have to settle for something a bit lower. On a PS4 Pro, the game will run in 1080p, and on a regular PS4 it’ll be 900p.

You can see side-by-side comparisons of the different versions in the below video:

Hogwarts Legacy PS5 vs PS4 framerate

On PS5, you could expect the game to hold at 60fps when playing in performance mode, with it dipping to around 45-50fps if you turned on ray tracing or quality mode.

By default, the PS4 versions of Hogwarts Legacy are locked at 30fps, holding steady in all environments. You can unlock the framerate, getting you up to 60fps inside and around 45fps outside. Be warned though that these are not especially stable, and the PS4’s lack of VRR support means we don’t recommend you play with unlocked frame rates.

Hogwarts Legacy PS5 vs PS4 loading times

This is where the most obvious difference lies. On PS5 the game will take roughly five seconds to load from the main menu, but on both PS4 and PS4 Pro, you can expect load times of around 40 seconds.
