We’re back with yet another Resident Evil 4 remake walkthrough, back and better than ever, in fact. This time we’re covering Chapter 12, which is the final chapter in the Castle portion of the game. It’s been a long time coming.

There are plenty of things to find in this chapter, a big boss to defeat, and an incredible combat challenge that we already know you’ll love. For everything you need to know to get through Resident Evil 4 remake Chapter 12, just read through our guide below.

Head for the Clock Tower – RE4 Remake

Thanks to a tip from Ada, we know that we should head towards the Clock Tower. We emerge from the mines next to the Ballroom, where we were first introduced to the Novistadors. You can unlock the gate here for a future shortcut, and there are also two new merchant requests on the wall here to complete: The Disgrace of the Salazar Family and Jewel Thief. If you head towards the Clock Tower, you won’t be able to return to complete these requests.

If you do choose to continue, however, use the gondola next to the merchant in the Ballroom. 

The Clock Tower, the Elevator Room – RE4 Remake

We find ourselves at the Clock Tower, also affectionately known as the Elevator Room to fans of the original game. It’s a huge combat challenge, essentially, so we’ll give you some tips to progress through. But, before you do anything, you should know that the bottom floor is home to a Clockwork Castellan.

Fight your way through the bottom floor and start heading up the stairs. In the center of the room you’ll see a statue of Ramon Salazar – yes, the statue is present in the remake too, completely reimagined, and it now breathes fire. Lovely. Wait for the fire to aim your way, and then sprint past in the brief window of opportunity you’re given.

Continue climbing the stairs, and when you get to the caged section, you should know that big steel boulders will start rolling down the stairs like the game is a cross between Looney Tunes and Indiana Jones. Continue climbing the stairs, and you can use the steel boulder lever to kill any monks chasing after you. From here you can jump down onto the elevator.

Start the elevator up and kill the red monk that appears within the cage. You’ll have several crossbow monks shooting at you as the elevator progresses, but luckily there are a lot of red barrels to shoot to get rid of them. Use your shotgun to clear off monks that jump onto your elevator to stall it. Another red monk will appear further up, and make sure to take care of them too.

Eventually, you’ll get to the top of the clock tower. Make sure to walk slowly when getting around on the wooden scaffolding around the clock tower, as it might break if you sprint – easier to deal with if you take out the monks with crossbows on the opposite side first. There’ll be a merchant on your left, and a big fight on your right.

Ramon Salazar boss fight – RE4 Remake

It’s time to take down the Castellan himself, Ramon Salazar. Much like all of the creatures within his castle, Salazar has mutated, and he’ll start swinging around the room like a freak, instead of being stationary as in his original iteration.

He will drop explosive balls of mutant snot on the floor, and these can be shot with a single pistol bullet to make them explode, and they often drop ammo and resources. He will also spit sludge across the arena, and you’re best off getting behind cover, or strafing to the side to avoid it. You can stun Salazar and stab him with your knife, if you’re lucky.

You can also throw a grenade into his mouth for extra damage, and there’s even a challenge for that.

Salazar is a pretty tough fight because he’s so aggressive and keeps moving. But the basic strategy is to unload bullets into him whenever his mutant mouth is open, dodge hits, and stay as mobile as possible. Sounds simple, but that’s all there really is to it.
