It hasn’t been long since F1 23 got updated with patch 1.08, which fixed several technical issues and bugs in the officially licensed racing sim, but EA Sports and Codemasters aren’t quite done: They pushed out a Driver Ratings Update as well now, which seeks to reflect what’s been going on in Formula 1’s 2023 season up to the British Grand Prix.

Alexander Albon, Zhou Guanyu, and Oscar Piastri have seen the biggest gains out of everyone on the grid, each adding two points to their overall ratings thanks to their strong performances. Albon (85 OVR) has been killing it in the Williams, single-handedly carrying the traditional brand into the points on several occasions, while Piastri (76 OVR) is so far having the best year any of Formula 1’s recent rookie drivers were able to put together. Zhou (80 OVR) has been remarkably consistent as well, often beating his experienced team mate Bottas.

Naturally, reigning world champion Max Verstappen, who has dominated the season so far, made gains as well, adding another point to his overall rating, which now stands at 95. Just like the Red Bull driver, Carlos Sainz Jr. and Nico Hülkenberg have been able to boost their overall ratings by one point each, now standing at 89 and 81 respectively. Hülkenberg has been especially strong in qualifying, which is all the more impressive after his break from F1.

The losers of the update have all lost one point from their previous overall ratings: Sergio Perez, Esteban Ocon, Lance Stroll, Yuki Tsunoda, Kevin Magnussen, and Nyck de Vries belong to this group – in de Vries’ case Alpha Tauri even went for the nuclear option and fired him mid-season in favor of the returning Daniel Ricciardo, who is now gunning for Perez’ seat in the Red Bull.

While there is no championship battle to speak of, Formula 1 definitely has enough drama going for it to keep fans entertained. We can expect further F1 23 Driver Ratings Updates to come out after the summer break, which begins after the Belgian Grand Prix this coming weekend.
