After the immense success of the Resident Evil 4 Remake and two previous reimaginings of old titles from the series, it’s been the clear expectation among fans that Capcom would keep up the string of modernizations. According to IGN, Capcom has now confirmed those expectations.

Yasuhiro Anpo, the game director for Resident Evil 4 Remake, is quoted as saying: “Yes. We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well. Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone that loves these older games, and we want to continue doing more.”

"Why, yes, we do like making money." – Somone at Capcom greenlighting more remakes, probably.

Naturally, he didn’t reveal which remaining game of the franchise would get the remake treatment next.

The studio certainly has enough of a selection left to work with: Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil Code: Veronica – and the list goes on. Of course, the newer the games get, the less remaking them makes sense, but that hasn’t stopped studios from doing it anyway to cash in some pocket money. Right, Naughty Dog? Capcom still has plenty of titles to work with that could actually benefit from remakes that bring them into the current generation of tech.

Resident Evil as a series will turn 30 years old in 2026, which may be perfect for a remake of the game that started it all. It does seem unlikely, however, that fans will have to wait that long for the modernized release, whatever it may be.

Resident Evil 4 Remake released earlier this year and has found universal acclaim among critics and users. It’s even been nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023, though it once again sparked a debate about whether remakes of existing games should even be eligible for awards like this.
