In what can only be described as A Big Oopsie, two unannounced Persona games have been leaked on Instagram. Game leaks are nothing new, but what’s interesting about this leak is that there are two major games, and they were leaked by Sega itself.

The official Atlus West Instagram posted two videos to its account last night, each announcing a new Persona game. The videos were deleted shortly after they were posted, but this is the internet, and nothing is ever truly gone from the internet. They’ve since been circulated widely online, and even if Sega wanted to remove them all, they’d likely have a tough time finding them.

So, let’s talk about the two games. The first is Persona 5 Tactica, shortened to P5T, a Persona 5 spin off with a tactical RPG combat system. It’s styled similarly to the Persona Q games that were on the 3DS, which is kind of cutesy and chibi-ish. It’s nice, if not particularly exciting.

It’s hard to tell where P5T fits into the Persona 5 timeline, if it does at all. It doesn’t seem to be set after P5’s canon-ish sequel, Persona 5 Strikers, but it can’t really fit in between either. It’s probably just safe to assume it’s not really important when or how it fits into the timeline. It’s easier that way.

The other game is much more interesting. After a year of rumors, Persona 3 is indeed being remade entirely, in the form of Persona 3 Reloaded. It looks a lot like Persona 5, so it’s likely running on the P5 engine, but otherwise looks to be a pretty by-the-books remake.

It’s a little bit strange, because Persona 3 Portable got a remaster that was released earlier this year. It was a pretty good remaster of a really great game, but like pretty much every other version of Persona 3, it had its flaws. There’s no ‘definitive’ version of Persona 3, with each having its own pros and cons, so this remake could bring it all together to make one cohesive experience.

Either way, both of these games are likely to appear in the upcoming Xbox Showcase this weekend, given the Instagram posts only showed Xbox as a platform. Like when the Persona 3, 4, and 5 Royal remasters were announced, it’s pretty much guaranteed they’ll come to PlayStation and Switch as well, in addition to PC.

Persona 3 Reloaded is apparently set to be released in early 2024, while Persona 5 Tactica is said to be launching on November 17, 2023. We’ll see how that pans out on the weekend.
