EA is offering a free Wild Hearts demo that lets you play 10 hours of the action game, but it’s only available for console players. Those on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can download the trial now through April 13, 2023, and play for 10 hours in the massive starting area.

PC players, meanwhile, get nothing.

The story and kemono – Wild Hearts talk for monsters – past the gates of Minato are blocked off, but that still gives you plenty of hunts and quests to tackle and a sizeable ecosystem to explore. You also get a chance to dabble with some of the game’s latest update, which adds a wind-themed kemono who floats on sakura blossoms and uses them to baffle and attack.

You can craft a new spinning top Karakuri as well. This one covers a lot of ground quickly and can even topple smaller enemies – perfect when you need to keep your distance.

Finally is the new limit break system, which lets you upgrade weapons and armor using orbs you obtain through hunting kemono. You can earn even in the opening areas, even if you might not have much reason to upgrade your armor that early.

If you like what you see, you can get 20 percent off the Karakuri Edition on PlayStation through April 12, 2023, and 20 percent off the standard edition from April 12, 2023, through April 26, 2023. Xbox players can get a 20 percent discount for both editions through April 20, 2023.

Our Dave Aubrey praised Wild Hearts for its fast-paced, aggressive monster fights, even though it's still a bit rough around the edges.
