Sonic Superstars: every Emerald Power and how to use them
One of the new features added in Sonic Superstars is the Emerald Powers. Rather than just having Super Sonic when you gather all seven Chaos Emeralds, each one along the way will unlock a new power for your characters which you can use once between each checkpoint.
These strange powers have a bunch of different uses, and some even differ from character to character, so we’ll go through and explain each one in the order you unlock them. Collecting all seven emeralds also gets you one step closer to unlocking Sonic Superstar’s true final boss, so you’ll want to go out of your way for that.
Avatar
Sega
Activating this power will cause lots of duplicates of your character to appear on the screen for a time. These Avatars can interact with just about everything in the level, collecting rings and destroying enemies for you as they touch them.
Bullet
Sega
By holding the power button and pointing the directional stick in a direction, your character will fire off in that direction with great speed, destroying anything in its path.
Water
Sega
Your character becomes liquid, allowing them to swim up waterfalls and move freely when underwater.
Ivy
Sega
Ivy spawns a large plant that your character can grab onto. You can control the direction it grows to get to otherwise unreachable spots.
Vision
Sega
This power reveals things that would otherwise be hidden. This can be secret platforms, rings, or even items.
Slow
Sega
As you might expect, this one slows down time for a short while, making making tricky platforming sections easier to navigate and boss attacks easier to dodge.
Extra

Extra acts differently depending on the character using it, but they each get a new move:
- Sonic – Does a homing attack that locks onto enemies and item boxes
- Tails – Shoots a tornado forward on the ground that sweeps up enemies
- Knuckles – Punches
- Amy – Throws her hammer out in front of her
- Trip – Shoots fireballs that bounce around the terrain
Super
Sega
Once you have all seven Chaos Emeralds, you can collect 50 rings in a level and transform into that character’s super form. This makes them immune to damage, much faster, and gives them extremely floaty jumps that let you fly through levels. However, their ring count will slowly deplete and they will lose their super form if it hits zero.
This power works the same for every character except Trip, who gets something extra special. If you want to find out what it is, you’ll need to find out how to unlock Trip in Sonic Superstars.
