PSA: here’s how to fix Baldur’s Gate 3’s error message on PS5

An easy operation

Update - 5 p.m. EST, Sep. 18, 2023

Larian Studios posted a short message on Twitter saying the team is aware of the problem, and it seems to stem from PSN issues. They recommend the offline mode workaround as well.

Original Story

A new Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5 message seems to have popped up for some players, causing the game to crash when you load a save file. It pops up when you try to start a game using the main menu’s “Continue” option, and it’s causing issues if you load any other save file as well.

Right as Baldur’s Gate 3 finishes loading the file, the game crashes and displays a CE-108255-1 error code. Sony’s recommendation for fixing the issue is updating the game – assuming an update is available – and reinstalling it if the update doesn’t work. That solution isn’t working for most players, though a few have found workarounds.

Twitter user TessStenson recommended setting your PS5 to offline mode to get around the problem, which seems to be fixing the error message problem for some. To put your PS5 in offline mode:

A man with pale, cracked skin, elvish ears, and dark goggles, wearing a wide-brimmed cavalier-style hat, is holding his right hand aloft. In place of fingers and flesh, the hand has metal and retractable blades
  • Go to the “Settings” menu
  • Open the “Network” options
  • Under “Network Settings,” toggle the “connect to the internet” option off

Alternatively, some players are reporting that they can get around the issue by starting a new save file and then, once they gain control of their character after about a minute, loading the original file they wanted from the pause menu.

It’s a bit tedious, but if the other solutions don’t fix the problem, it’s worth trying. And if that doesn't work, you might want to consider trying some games like Baldur's Gate 3 to hold you over until an official fix happens.

At the time of publication, Larian hasn’t made a statement about the bug or what’s causing it. Meanwhile, if you're just (trying) to get started on PS5, check out our Baldur's Gate 3 tips and tricks to help see you on your way.
