Owners of the limited edition Cyberpunk 2077-themed Xbox One X will reportedly be reimbursed for the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC, after it was announced late last year that the expansion won’t be coming to last-generation consoles.

The Phantom Liberty DLC was announced for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 in December, alongside the announcement that Idris Elba and his velvet voice would be starring in the expansion. The DLC looks incredible, a far cry from how the game originally launched, and it became clear sticking to next-gen (or current-gen, I guess) was pretty much necessary to make it work.

The only problem with passing on last-gen consoles was that Microsoft had previously sold a limited edition Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One X console. And promised to give the first expansion to owners of that console. Which now can’t be played on that console. Oops.

Thankfully, CD Projekt seems to have a solution for those players, although it might not be to everyone’s liking. According to a statement provided to Australian games website Maxi-Geek, owners of the Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One X will be provided with Microsoft Store credit in lieu of the DLC.

“Owners of the Xbox One X - Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition Bundle will receive a reimbursement for the expansion in the form of Microsoft Store credits,” a spokesperson for CD Projekt told Maxi-Geek.

No specific amount was detailed, but it’s likely that owners of the console will get the cost of the DLC reimbursed, which is $29.99 in the US. It’s not known if players who have received the DLC after upgrading to an Xbox Series console will also receive the credits, or if they’ll have to live with the DLC by itself, but CD Projekt is expected to formally announce details of the reimbursement scheme soon.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is scheduled to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on September 26, 2023.
