Bungie announced that Destiny 2: The Final Shape would be released on June 4, 2024, marking a slight delay for the game’s next expansion, which was initially set for a February release.

“The Final Shape is the culmination of the first ten years of Destiny storytelling and, for Guardians everywhere, countless hours spent together. We want to honor that journey, so we’re taking the time we need to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision, one that we hope will be remembered and treasured for years to come,” the studio’s statement reads. “We know you’re eager to get your hands on The Final Shape. In that sense, delays aren’t fun. For our part, we are excited to have the extra time needed to bring our vision for The Final Shape to life for all of you.”

Players will have to wait a little longer for The Final Shape.

That, of course, leaves a content gap between March and June 2024, for which Bungie has also released a roadmap of sorts. First, the Season of Wish beginning today will be extended until the final DLC is launched. Most of the original content planned for the season is still scheduled to run between December 2023 and February 2024, but some last-minute additions are supposed to keep players busy.

In February 2024, Bungie wants to deliver weekly progression-based quests called Wishes, and the launch of Moments of Triumph with unique rewards. The Guardian Games, a class vs. class event, will be moved to March 2024. In April 2024, a two-month content update called Into the Light will be launched, “which will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler.” In May 2024, players can expect three brand-new PvP maps to drop.

Bungie wants to unveil more about The Final Shape starting in April 2024, “including all-new gameplay, to showcase the significant content additions currently in development.”

Destiny 2 originally launched in 2017 and The Final Shape is supposed to be the climactic end for the ongoing Light and Darkness Saga in the game’s storyline. The game is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
