New Pokémon from yet-unreleased Scarlet and Violet games appears in Pokémon Go

But you won't be able to catch it... yet

A new Pokémon from the upcoming Scarlet and Violet games has been revealed and has suddenly appeared in mobile game Pokémon Go.

Gimmighoul is the first Pokémon from the ninth generation – originating from the new Paldea region – to show up in the AR game.

Known as the Coin Chest Pokémon, Gimminghoul is one of very few non-legendary Pokémon to appear in two forms - Chest and Roaming.

In its Chest form, Gimminghoul hides inside a red chest full of coins; in its Roaming form, it carries one of the coins on its back.

A ghost-type Pokémon, Gimminghoul’s Chest form has an ability called Rattled, which was teased over the weekend.

His Roaming form has been appearing in Pokémon Go to trainers who pick up certain mysterious coins, but players aren’t yet able to catch it.

The Pokémon GO team has confirmed Gimminghoul’s appearance in a news post on the game’s official website. In it, The Pokémon Company also revealed that the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games will link with Pokémon Go, allowing players to catch the roaming form of Gimminghoul.

Potentially, other next-gen Pokémon will be coming to the mobile game through this feature. More details and announcements about game linking are expected soon, while the feature itself is coming in 2023.

The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet pair of games, in which the next generation of Pokémon will see their debut, is slated for a November 18 release, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
