Redfall is one of the flagship releases for Xbox Series X|S in 2023, but it seems like the co-op first-person shooter won’t even be able to run at 60 FPS on the consoles when it comes out. “Redfall is launching on Xbox consoles with Quality mode only,” announced the game’s official Twitter account.

The Xbox Series X version will run in 4K at 30 FPS, the Series S version in 1440p at 30 FPS. The Performance mode running at 60 FPS is supposed to be delivered “at a later date” through an update.

That is obviously quite disappointing for players to hear and is not a great sign pointing towards technical polish and a solid performance, which is all the more sad because Redfall looks to be a very entertaining game. We recently had a chance to play it ahead of release and chat with the developers about the vampire-slaying adventure, leaving us with a positive impression.

Gamers are questioning why the developers aren’t delaying the game until it can run at 60 FPS directly out of the box, which really should be the standard in this day and age. Naturally, making video games is a complicated and costly process, and with Redfall already having been delayed, another missed shipping date doesn’t seem to be an option. Still, players are right to question the ethics behind selling products the developers know aren’t quite finished with the promise that it will be fixed later on – a practice all too common in today’s industry.

Redfall will launch on May 2, 2023, on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
