After being locked behind a premium edition of Spider-Man Miles Morales for two and a half years, you’ll soon be able to buy Spider-Man Remastered by itself, or even upgrade if you own the base game. The announcement was made in the leadup to the release of Spider-Man 2, which is set to release sometime this Autumn.

Spider-Man Remastered is, as the name suggests, a remastered version of the 2018 instant hit made by Insomniac Games. It includes enhancements for the PlayStation 5, new Spider-Suits, all previously released free DLC, and the paid The City That Never Sleeps DLC.

Previously, if you wanted to play it, you either had to buy it on PC, where it was available as a standalone purchase, or shell out for the expensive Ultimate Edition of Spider-Man Miles Morales, which would set you back $70. Starting in late May, you’ll be able to purchase Spider-Man Remastered separately for $49.99.

Players who already own a physical or digital copy of Spider-Man on PS4 also have an upgrade path available to them, in which they can pay $10 to upgrade to the remastered version. That offer is available regardless of which version of the PS4 game you have. The only exception is that you won’t be able to upgrade if you only own the PS Plus version of the game which, y’know, fair enough.

Spider-Man 2 is still a little way off from releasing, as it’s not expected to launch until much later in the year. Tony Todd, the voice actor for Venom in the upcoming game, claimed that the game was set for a September 2023 release date, which sounds pretty believable, but would put it up against Xbox’s big 2023 game Starfield, which is also due to be released in September.

We should, at least, be hearing more about Starfield soon, so we should get a pretty good feel of what Spider-Man 2 could be up against. That’s because there’s a Starfield Direct set for next month, which will take us through gameplay, story, and more for the upcoming epic from Bethesda.

In the meantime, there’s still plenty of time to play the original Spider-Man game, remastered or otherwise, and find all those damn backpacks.
