New Star Wars Outlaws trailer finally shows off Jabba the Hutt

Kay Vess is very good at making enemies
Ubisoft

Ubisoft showcased a slick new Star Wars Outlaws trailer following the open-world game’s earlier release date leak, and it looks pretty promising so far. The latest Star Wars game trailer sets the stage for Kay Vess’ journey across the galaxy in a bid to find somewhere she can live a safe and peaceful life.

And yes, Jabba the Hutt finally makes an appearance.

Living quietly is a pretty big ask for Kay. Star Wars Outlaws takes place during the late imperial era when the Rebel Alliance is preparing for a counterstrike after suffering defeat on Hoth. As if that’s not enough chaos and strife, Kay made the mistake of double-crossing one of the galaxy’s top crime syndicate leaders, and now she’s got a hefty bounty on her head. While other smugglers and space criminals want to make a name for themselves, Kay just wants her life back.

To get it, she’ll have to take on one more job and find a crew she can trust, though it looks like that crew consists mainly of her rodent sidekick Nix and a robot in a trenchcoat. Ubisoft still hasn’t said where Outlaws takes place, but based on the trailer’s shots and outline, you can expect to spend plenty of time in the Outer Rim – the same region Star Wars Jedi: Survivor took place in.

You can check out the story trailer for yourself on YouTube.

"Star Wars Outlaws invites fans to experience a side of the galaxy that has a treasure trove yet to be explored, the exploits of the scoundrels taking advantage of the golden age of the underworld. We’ve been inspired by Massive Entertainment’s dedication to bringing this aspect of Star Wars to life, including both iconic and new things for fans to explore in an open world," Douglas Reilly, Lucasfilm Games vice president, said in a press release.

It might be a trove of unexplored Star Wars storytelling , but Outlaws has plenty of nods to established series lore, including a meeting with Jabba the Hutt, Han Solo (carbonite edition), Storm Troopers, Star Destroyers, and all the trappings you’d expect from the setting.

Star Wars Outlaws launches on Aug. 30, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Ubisoft’s Connect launcher.
