HBO’s The Last of Us will not return for Episode 5 on its usual Monday night time slot to avoid a clash with Super Bowl. Instead, the hit show based on the popular video games by Naughty Dog will stream on February 10, 2023 – that’s the upcoming Friday.

Fans of the show have their waiting time for the next episode cut down by a few days due to the move, which is certainly very welcome. On the downside, of course, waiting for Episode 6 will be even harder than usual, since that’s expected to be released on Monday, February 19, 2023.

The Last of Us Episode 5 not only has been rescheduled on HBO Max, as HBO’s European distribution partner Sky confirmed that it will move the next episode’s release in the regions it serves to match the early US launch.

HBO usually reserves Mondays for its big-budget shows, airing Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and now The Last of Us on that day.

The Last of Us HBO show expands “half-developed” story: A white man with a short beard and a square jaw, wearing a green jacket, stands next to a teenage girl with black hair pulled into a ponytail. Fungus is sprouting on the cement wall behind them

Ellie and Joel's next adventure starts a few days early.

However, not even the highly praised video game adaptation will stand much of a chance against the once-in-a-year media juggernaut that is the Super Bowl, so it’s probably a wise idea to make the move and risk losing some viewership due to the schedule change instead of competing with one of the biggest TV events on the entire planet.

Coinciding with the Kansas City Chiefs’ appearance at the big game, Ellie and Joel are set to travel through Kansas City in Episode 5, which is titled “Endure and Survive” – it looks like the episode will also feature the two brothers Henry and Sam, who played a major part in the game, as well as an appearance by Jeffrey Pierce, who performed the role of Tommy in the source material.
