The Chinese Room and Paradox Interactive presented Vampire: The Masquerade fans with the protagonist of the upcoming Bloodlines 2 today. Phyre is an Elder Kindred, who was embraced back in the 17th Century. While they are an established character, players will be able to select a male or female version as well as choose a clan for them from four different options – Paradox will reveal those over the next few weeks. A fifth clan as well other content will come to the game after launch.

Phyre is fully voice-acted and will be assisted on their adventure by Fabian, a mysterious voice that’s directly projected into their head and seems to be omnipresent. Phyre seeks to hunt down one of the Camarilla clan’s rogue enforcers in an alternate version of Seattle. This mission will bring her into contact with the city’s elite and each dialog choice directly impacts how everyone will react to Phyre and which direction the narrative will take.

Oh look, a snack!

Fans of the setting should watch the Seattle by Night live-play show of the pen-and-paper game from Penny Arcade, as it acts as a sort of prequel to Bloodlines 2 by setting the stage for Phyre’s awakening.

“Creating a character that resonates with players in the World of Darkness, yet shakes up what they know about Seattle, is a core pillar of our storytelling,” said Ian Thomas, Narrative Director at The Chinese Room. “We maintain Vampire: The Masquerade’s essence and leverage its dark undertones to weave Phyre’s intricate narrative. All these elements combine to create a deeply immersive story that players expect from a Bloodlines game while maintaining our signature Chinese Room flair.”

“Bloodlines 2 comes to life with Phyre as they wake in a very different world than they remember. They have a certain edge to every encounter, making each interaction more impactful than the last,” commented Sean Greaney, Vice President of World of Darkness at publisher Paradox Interactive. “Seattle adapts and changes to the choices and dialogue options players choose, resulting in a different story experience. With Phyre, players finally have the Bloodlines 2 game they’ve been waiting so long to experience.”

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is set to be released in Fall 2024.
