All Baldur's Gate 3 Underdark entrances

Under there

The Baldur’s Gate 3 Underdark entrances are many, but actually finding your way into the bowels of Faerun isn’t the easiest. Some entrances are hidden, one takes you to a part of the Underdark that’s far removed from the rest, and you might never even run across one, if your character lacks the necessary skills.

We list all the Baldur’s Gate 3 Underdark entrances below, with steps for how to access them.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Underdark entrance – Blighted Village

A bard, a wizard, and a cleric walk up to an overgrown well in a run-down village, near a large rock and three smaller ones.

The Blighted Village's well has hidden depths (badumtiss)

You can reach the Blighted Village Underdark entrance quickly, but it’s a pretty dangerous one to attempt. The well just north of the fast travel portal takes you into a slimy, web-encruted tunnel called the Whispering Depths, which is full of spiders and other monsters, and the pit at the far end – the one the Phase Spider Matriarch walks around – leads to the Underdark.

You can’t leap down a vertical tunnel spanning several meters in real life without suffering grievous bodily harm, and the same is true in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you jump into the tunnel as is, you’ll die when you reach the bottom. So will everyone else in your party, which means it’s an instant game over – not good if you’re in an Honour mode run. You need the Feather Fall potion or spell to land safely.

A bard, a wizard, and a barbarian stand near a large, gaping hole with ominous green mist rising from it.

Death awaits any foolish enough to jump in there unprepared.

This entrance drops you onto a mushroom-lined walkway overlooking the main path north out of the Selunite Outpost. There’s not really a good reason to use this entrance unless you want to skip going through the Goblin Camp before exploring the Underdark.

Grab the gem near the spider matriarch before you leave. You'll need it for the Necromancy of Thay book that's also hidden in the Blighted Village.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Underdark entrance – The Teahouse

A rogue, a bard, and a cleric stand near an extinguished fireplace in a crowded teahouse.

Not your average teahouse - not your average auntie.

Auntie Ethel’s riverside teahouse hides a secret entrance to the Underdark, though it takes some blood and maybe a little bit of death to reach. Enter Ethel’s lair via the fireplace in the teahouse, and proceed until you reach a gnarled door. This obstacle is an illusion that you should be able to pass through with the right dialogue choices, but if you fail, you can grab the Whispering Mask near the lair’s entrance.

The catch is that, unless Ethel is dead, she’ll control you via the mask. Use the Protection from Good and Evil spell on the target character before they put the mask on. If you’ve already dealt with Ethel, you can wear the mask without spells and repercussions.

It looks like an illusory wall... because it is one.

Move forward through the lair until you reach a posse of other Ethel-controlled people. Knock them out or kill them as you see fit, and jump through the waterfall that’s to the right of the room’s entrance. Descend the ladder to your left, follow the path until it reaches an end, and jump onto the rocky ledge in front of you. Equip the mask again, go through the wall, and you’ll see a mushroom circle with a swirl of green light at the center.

That portal takes you to the Underdark’s southwest corner, near the Arcane Tower and a field of exploding mushrooms. Mind your step.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Underdark entrance – Zhentarim Hideout in Waukeen’s Rest

A bard is standing in an open space with a dead ox to his left and an open barn in front.

At the sign of the dead ox.

The Zhentarim Underdark entrance is one of the more challenging to find, since it requires knowledge of a specific location and good luck on an Investigation check. The Zhentarim hideout is in a far corner of Waukeen’s Rest, a small village north of the Blighted Village where you can – hopefully – save Councillor Florrick and progress Wyll’s companion quest.

Make sure you have a Detect Thoughts spell handy or a Potion of Mind Reading.

Face the burning building, and turn left. Your target is a building blocked by crates. Move the crates or destroy them, and enter the barn. Speak with the Zhentarim inside, and de-escalate the situation. Read his mind to learn the hideout’s password, so you can pass unscathed, and find the hideout entrance at the back of the barn.

It's worth playing nice with the Zhentarim, for now.

Once inside the Zhentarim hideout, head to the point shown on the image above, but save just before you get there so you can reload for the Investigation check if necessary. A successful check will reveal the wall as an illusion. Head through, and you’ll find a locked crane winch. Use a set of Thieves’ Tools to unlock it – Astarion is particularly useful here, if you’re having trouble – and move forward to the elevator.

Make sure to save before approaching the wolf, in case you need to reload for the investigation check.

This entrance drops you at the far northern end of the Underdark, near the Myconid Colony.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Underdark entrance – Goblin Camp Defiled Sanctum

A map of the BG3 Goblin Camp with four ally characters standing near Priestess Gut's room.

You can try sneaking into Gut's room, but entering the Defiled Temple is an illegal act.

The entrance BG3 leads you toward the most is the Defiled Temple entrance in the Goblin Camp. You can reach it by visiting Priestess Gut’s room – ideally with her not in it or not breathing. Deal with the ogre inside or sneak past her, enter the sanctum, and solve the puzzle, or reload until one of your characters passes the perception check needed to reveal a button that lets you bypass the moon puzzle.

A bard, a wizard, a cleric, and a barbarian stand in a dimly lit room, in front of three rotating discs bearing images of the moon.

You could solve the puzzle or you could try and Perception your way out of it.

However you handle it, the wall in front of the moon discs will slide away and reveal a ladder. The ladder leads you to a ruined and fairly safe Selunite outpost in the Underdark’s southeastern corner, which is a pretty solid starting point for your explorations here.
