Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 patch notes: 5 biggest changes
It’s been an exciting week of teases, leaks, and reveals, but Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 is finally here. As expected this season, named “MEGA”, takes a heavy Neo-Tokyo theme, bringing in elements of cyberpunk and Japanese culture to give us new weapons, vehicles, POIs, and of course, a new Battle Pass.
We’ll break down the biggest changes and mechanical updates this season so you know what to look out for when you drop into a match.
New weapons – Kinetic Blade, Pulse Rifle, and more
The Fortnite Kinetic Blade is a powerful new melee weapon.
Fortnite is a game about combat, so let’s start with the new weapons.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the Kinetic Blade here. This katana is a melee weapon that can do far more than your average sword. It can slice through opponents in a flash but also has a dash attack that you can use to instantly zoom toward your target, making their long-range weapons virtually useless.
The Havoc Suppressed Assault Rifle is a silenced, automatic, and highly accurate weapon that can be used for efficient attacks, or there’s the Havoc Pump Shotgun if you prefer something with a little more power.
Then there’s the Overclocked Pulse Rifle, which seems to be a Mythic-only weapon we’ll have to hunt down to use.
New vehicles – Nitro Drifter and Victory Crown Rogue

With the new MEGA City POI having wide streets, you’re going to want cool vehicles that can navigate those streets easily, and you’ve got a couple of choices that fit right in with the setting.
First is the Victory Crown Rogue, or “Rogue Bike”, which focuses on high acceleration and sharp turning, making it a perfect getaway vehicle. As for cars, you can take the Nitro Drifter, a four-seat vehicle that – as the name suggests – can drift around corners.
New POIs – MEGA City and the surrounding biome

MEGA City is undoubtedly the centerpiece for this season. It’s a big city area that is illuminated seemingly by just the neon signs attached to every building. However, the entire southeastern section of the map has now been turned into a new biome, which focuses on more traditional Japanese architecture.
Outside of MEGA City are lush green fields with houses dotted all around. You’ll be able to find shrines, temples, and zen gardens out in this area, so it’s worth exploring the place.
Rail grinding
Have battles across the sky while grinding on rails.
Little by little, Fortnite is becoming a Sonic the Hedgehog game. The new movement mechanic introduced this season is rail grinding, and we don’t mean in the skateboard sense. MEGA City has a bunch of long rails running between all the rooftops, and you can hop on them to grind across long distances. You can even shoot while you’re on them, letting you take out enemies on the move.
Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Battle Pass – Eren Jaeger
A new selection of original skins fills the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Battle Pass.
What would a new season be without a new Battle Pass? The big selling point this season is the secret skin which will unlock part-way through the season – Attack of Titan protagonist, Eren Jaeger. Alongside that are seven other original skins that you can unlock as you level up this season. We’ll have a full list of everything available in the Battle Pass soon, so check back regularly.
