Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a delightful return to form for 2D Mario, packed with fresh ideas and quite a few secrets and surprises across its six main worlds. One such Easter Egg are several encounters with Captain Toad as he explores the Flower Kingdom.

Finding Captain Toad at five secret locations in the overworld map will reward you with 50 flower coins for each encounter, and it’s a nice way to get a glimpse of worlds you haven’t explored yet. In this guide, we show you how to unlock and find all Captain Toad locations in Super Mario Bros. Wonder in the order in which they appear in the game.

W1 Pipe-Rock Plateau - Captain Toad locations

World 1 in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Pipe-Rock Plateau, features three secret Captain Toad locations. The first one requires you to find a secret exit in one of the levels, while the other two can be found by exploring every corner of the overworld very diligently.

First Captain Toad location - after Piranha Plants on Parade

Captain Toad’s first hiding spot is hinted at very early in the game. As you move from the very first level to the next in the overworld, and if you’re playing in online mode, you may notice another player standing just below Piranha Plants on Parade. To unlock a path (and a pipe) to the first Captain Toad location, you need to complete the Piranha Plants on Parade level and find its secret exit.

To reach the secret exit, you need to jump above the three pipes in Piranha Plants on Parade and then go left, where you’ll find a red pipe through which you need to go.

In this encounter, Captain Toad is atop a volcano overlooking Petal Isles, which is technically part of World 6. Captain Toad will give you 50 flower coins.

At a certain point in the game, you will get the Sensor badge, which makes it much easier to discover secret exits and other important missables.

Second Captain Toad location - upper World 1 open area

The next Captain Toad hidden spot in World 1 is located at the very top of the upper open area. Once you’re in World 1 proper, after the first three levels, you will get to the first open area. There’s a path going up that you need to unlock, which will lead you to a second open area above.

Go past the Parachute Cap I Badge Challenge level to reach the upper-right corner of the open area. There’s a hidden pipe there, so you can press A, and you’ll reach Captain Toad’s second location.

This time, he is gazing up at World 2 and, once again, will give you 50 flower coins.

Third Captain Toad location - underworld pipe before World 1 palace

Still in World 1, at the crossroads right before Pipe-Rock Plateau Palace, take the path that leads down to a green pipe, past the Wall-Climb Jump I Badge Challenge. Press A to enter the pipe.

The pipe will lead you to an underground part of the world with two levels and one KO Arena. Go past the Angry Spikes and Sinkin’ Pipes towards the upper right corner of the screen to find a hidden pipe.

This encounter with Captain Toad is just above the castle in World 6, and he will reward you 50 flower coins again.

W4 Sunbaked Desert - Captain Toad locations

Sunbaked Desert is where you’ll have two more Captain Toad encounters. The first one is in the desert open area and requires you to activate three switches quickly to open a hidden door, while the second one is closer to the palace, behind a question mark.

Fourth Captain Toad location - Sunbaked Desert sandy open area

To find the fourth Captain Toad location, go to the open desert area in World 4, where you’ll also find several levels hidden in the sands.

There’s a big wall with a question mark in the area, which is actually a hidden gate you’ll need to open. You do this by activating three switches in the sand. There’s a Poplin next to the switch at the bottom, who will tip you about the Captain Toad encounter.

Just go over all three switches quickly to open the question mark wall. Go right in the hallway, and you will find a secret level, Rolling-Ball Hall, and past it, a hidden pipe in the upper-right corner.

This will transport you to a hidden area behind a waterfall in World 3. Move right, and you will find Captain Toad hiding behind the waterfall. As always, your reward is 50 flower coins.

Fifth Captain Toad location - behind the question mark

The last Captain Toad location is in World 4 again, but for this one, you need to climb the stairs on the right side of the sandy open area. You then go left, past Color-Switch Dungeon and up, where you must pay a Poplin to fix a broken bridge.

Traverse the bridge and go left and then around the walkway, going down, left, up and right, to reach the area behind the upper question mark. Of course, there’s a hidden pipe there.

The pipe will transport you to a tiny island in World 5, where you’ll Captain Toad, who will give you 50 flower coins.
