As you move through the world of Resident Evil 4’s remake, you will eventually come across the house of the town’s Mayor, Bitores Mendez. Other than a bloke hiding in the bathroom, his house is pretty quiet, and much nicer than the neighbors’.

At the back of the house of a locked cupboard, sealed with a strange combination lock. This cupboard holds a key item you’ll need to progress, so if you’re finding yourself stuck, you can find the solution in this guide.

Solve the combination lock puzzle in the Mayor’s House – RE4 Remake

As you explore the upstairs of the Mayor’s House, you’ll find a book on a table, Illuminados 4:3. It contains the following passage:

The old farmer, his finest crop.
The slight swineherd, his stoutest pig.
The beggarly grandam, her own beloved babe.

That’s a big hint that crop, pig, and babe are the solution for the lock downstairs.

The solution is shown in the image above – the double wheat symbol, the animal, and finally the baby.

This will give you the Crystal Marble, which you can use to unlock the main door upstairs.
