Starfield High Price to Pay: defend the Lodge or go to the Eye?
As things start to heat up in Starfield’s main story, you’ll be hit with a big decision that will have heartbreaking consequences. As you gather more pieces of the artifact, the Starborn will launch an assault on both the Constellation Lodge and the Eye. You may be the strong hero, but you can’t be in two places at once, so you have to make a choice of which location you will personally defend.
This is a tough choice, as it puts the characters at the location you leave behind at heavy risk. We’ll explain the consequences of the choice so you know whether to go to the Lodge or the Eye during the High Price to Pay quest.
This quest can put you in a tricky battle too, so it’s best to grab some great gear like the Mantis suit from their side-quest, or even some powers from the mysterious Temples.

In our experiments, it is possible for one of four characters to die during this mission. These are four members of Constellation that you can have as followers, meaning Sarah Morgan, Sam Coe, Barrett, and Andreja are all potentially on the chopping block.
We’re not entirely sure what determines who is at which location, but a prior mission will make it clear who is where, so you’ll know by the time you have to make the choice.
Through our different playthroughs and attempts, we’ve determined that the character you have the closest relationship with at the location you don’t defend will die.
For example, if Sarah and Barrett are both on the Eye while you defend the Lodge, the one of them you have the closest relationship with will die. Conversely, if you defended the Eye in that scenario and abandoned the Lodge, the closest out of Sam and Andreja would die instead.
As far as which you should choose, if there is a character you absolutely do not want to die, defend whichever location they are at, then they will definitely survive.
