Age of Wonders 4: Dragon Dawn arrives on June 20, 2023, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S alongside the free Wyvern Update for the turn-based strategy game from Triumph Studio and Paradox Interactive. Dragon Dawn is the first of a series of planned expansions for the game.

The Dragon Dawn DLC adds a variety of content to Age of Wonders 4, expanding the available options for players in ruler and faction creation as well as in researchable Tomes of Magic.

Elder Dragons are a new Ruler Type you can choose for your faction instead of Mortal Champion or Wizard King. They are just as customizable, though, coming with their own options for wings, snouts, tails, scales, unique skills, equipment, transformations, and events.

If you need a fitting army for your draconic ruler then the new Lizardfolk are the perfect choice for your faction – the reptilians join the options in the faction creation screen.

Alongside the dragons come two new Tomes of Magic, the Tome of Evolution and the Tome of Dragons. The first one adds new units that evolve as they level and spells to boost them, the latter satisfies all your dragon summoning, dragon power, and dragon transformation needs.

The Draconian Transformation allows you to give your Elves and other races draconic features.

Finally, Dragon Dawn introduces a new Realm for you to play around with, the Ashen War. This scenario features six Elder Dragons locked in a destructive conflict – and you could be the one to tip the scales in this eternal battle.

“During the development of Age of Wonders 4, we had more ideas than we had time to add them. We knew we wanted to do something very special with Dragons and Reptilian beings, so with Dragon Dawn, we went all-in,” said Lennart Sas, co-founder of Triumph Studios and director of Age of Wonders 4 in a press release. “How many games allow you to customize an actual Dragon Ruler with unique abilities and styles? Dragon Dawn is the perfect example of how we want to build upon the Age of Wonders experience for our players.”

This could be a metal album cover, so Triumph Studios is clearly doing everything right.

In addition to Dragon Dawn, the free Wyvern Update is set to come to Age of Wonders 4. It’ll feature various quality-of-life and balance updates that have been requested by the community.

Players with the Age of Wonders 4 Expansion Pass, which was included in the Premium Edition, will automatically gain access to Dragon Dawn. It will be available to be purchased separately for a suggested price of $9.99 / £8.49 / €9.99 as well.
