Better make some room

Larian Studios has begun revealing details on Patch 6 for Baldur’s Gate 3, the next large update for 2023’s undisputed Game of the Year. “Large” really is the most apt description for the patch, which will require around 150GB of free storage space to install. The Patch 6 download size is a bit more forgiving at least with 21GB.

If you don’t have enough free space on your machine, be it a PC, handheld, or console, and are unable or unwilling to clear enough storage, your best option is to make a clean install of Baldur’s Gate 3 once the patch is available – so just uninstall and re-download the game entirely. This will result in a longer download time, of course, but may save you from having to uninstall a bunch of other titles and re-download those afterwards. Space management is getting more difficult, huh?

Baldur's Gate 3 Withers.

That feeling when you have to wait for Baldur's Gate 3 to download again.

Patch 6 will introduce a wonderful quality-of-life improvement for changing your party by allowing you to dismiss one of your current party members while asking a different companion to join your party, essentially enabling you to do a one-to-one replacement without having to jockey around between your companions in camp. That’s going to be a timesaver for sure.

A fix for Shield Bash and Rebuke of the Mighty will be included in the update as well, enabling your passive skills to correctly trigger saving throws again.

Another change Larian already communicated ahead of time is that automatically triggered dialog will try to prioritize your own character as the main speaker, not your party members – main character privilege and all that.

Patch 6 is set to launch for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S soon, while Mac users will have to be a bit more patient for the update to arrive.
