Larian Studios has shared the good news that Microsoft seems to have identified a fix for the ongoing save bugs that plague Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X|S. This solution is planned to be delivered through a firmware update available worldwide on January 16, 2024.

“Microsoft have identified the cause of the save bug on Xbox, and will be issuing a firmware update to fix it! You'll be able to update your console manually on the 16th of January, or wait a week longer for the update to roll out globally,” the studio posted on social media. Larian added that it wasn’t able to verify this fix, but that it was “optimistic that Microsoft have gotten to the bottom of it.”

An upcoming firmware update for the Xbox Series X|S should fix the frustrating save issues in BG3.

The Belgian developer previously explained that it could do nothing about the save issues of its RPG on Xbox due to the bug being caused by the console’s firmware, which is Microsoft’s to fix. All it could do was offer a workaround through its own cloud save system in the meantime. With a fix finally on the horizon, Baldur’s Gate 3 players on Xbox can rejoice – as can players of other games, since this firmware issue has been known for a while now. It looks like the popularity and public sway Larian enjoys at the moment really helped to get Microsoft to jump into action.

Not every action by the Xbox maker regarding Baldur’s Gate 3 is being well received, however: Xbox moderators are banning Baldur’s Gate 3 players for taking lewd screenshots, since these end up getting uploaded to the cloud and shared with the public automatically, if users haven’t opted out of the system. This has drawn massive criticism from the community as well as from Larian Studios, a member of which called the situation “uncool.”

While Larian Studios is already working on its next project alongside continuing its support for BG3, Microsoft has announced an Xbox Developer Direct for January 18, 2024, where it will show off some of its upcoming titles.
