Adaptations of video games are all the rage in Hollywood right now and Borderlands is the next franchise on the agenda. Releasing on August 9, 2024, the movie based on the Gearbox series features Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Jack Black as Claptrap, and Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina.

Lilith, an infamous outlaw, is searching for the missing daughter of Atlas, who’s portrayed by Edgar Ramírez, and teams up with Claptrap, Tina, Kevin Hart’s Roland, Florian Munteanu’s Krieg, and Jamie Lee Curtis’ Tannis for this adventure on Pandora.

Borderlands is coming to the big screen.

“The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other,” an official synopsis of the movie as quoted by People says. A pair of photos shared by the site give us our first official impression of the upcoming movie, with Blanchett rocking red hair, a leather jacket, and the posture of a gunslinger getting ready to blast her foes. Want to guess her age? Yeah, I wouldn’t have said “54” either, but here we are.

People’s second image from the movie shows some members of the crew looking down a well or manhole cover.

Borderlands started filming in April 2021 under the supervision of director Eli Roth. With recent video game adaptations having done great commercially as well as critically – Jack Black even had a part in that, playing Bowser in the Super Mario movie – Borderlands could fall on fertile ground. If it’s good, that is.
