Switching between multiple high-level characters in Diablo 4 can be a bit of a tough time, and most of the issues come down to high level caps applied to some of the game’s best items. That’s about to change, as Blizzard has confirmed that its most powerful items will soon be available to lower-level characters, making starting a new class much more viable.

Diablo 4’s items are split up into multiple rarities — Normal, Magic, Rare, and Legendary items can be found on any game difficulty, while Unique and Sacred items require players to be on world tier three or above. Once you move up to world tier four, a new class of item can start to drop: Ancestral items.

Sacred and Ancestral items typically drop at the level the player is, and that’s usually pretty high. Getting to the upper two world tiers requires a lot of hard work, high levels, and highly optimized builds. Once you hit level 100, all Sacred and Ancestral items will only drop at level 100, which is a bit of a problem if you want to move those items onto other characters, since you’d have to level that character all the way to 100 before being able to equip them.

Thankfully, with the launch of Diablo 4’s first season, Sacred and Ancestral items will have their maximum levels capped — Sacred items will be capped at level 60, while Ancestral items will be capped at level 80. This should open up a lot more options for players playing multiple characters across multiple classes, especially since you often find items that might not be good on your current Druid build, but may be perfect for your Necromancer build.

Diablo 4’s first season, the Season of the Malignant, is set to launch later in the week, on July 20, 2023, and will bring a host of new quests, items, and features to the game. It’s not all smooth sailing though, as players will unfortunately have to start a new character in order to partake. At the very least, players won’t have to play through the story again — once you’ve cleared the campaign once, you can choose to skip it on subsequent playthroughs.
