F1 22, the officially licensed Formula 1 game by Codemasters and EA Sports, adds the new car fielded by the Alfa Romeo F1 Team in the upcoming 2023 season ahead of the F1 pre-season tests later this week.

This will be the first time ever that players can jump into one of the brand-new vehicles of a fresh F1 season before it begins. The Alfa Romeo C43 is going to be available in Time Trial mode, the model showing all the little improvements made compared to last season’s vehicle. Naturally, it comes in its new black and red livery, giving it an aggressive look.

It’s also the first taste of what fans can expect to see in F1 23 later this year – just like the actual grid, the game will likely look a lot darker this time around, as teams have incorporated a lot more naked carbon fiber into their liveries to save crucial weight.

“Pre-season testing is a highly anticipated moment in the Formula 1 calendar and the first opportunity for fans to see how the new cars perform on the grid,” commented John Merchant, F1 Global Brand Director at EA Sports. “We’re delighted to become part of the 2023 re-start by giving our players the opportunity to be the first to race and test the C43.”

“Fans mean everything to us, and to be able to give them the chance to drive our new Alfa Romeo F1 Team C43 before they even see it on track in real life is something that was never done before in the official F1 video games,” said Alessandro Alunni Bravi, Managing Director of Sauber Group and Alfa Romeo F1 Team Representative. “We’re proud to be at the leading edge of this pioneering approach, but this is not the whole story: we have a lot more in store, planned for the season, and we can’t wait to show you.”

Sauber (currently running under Alfa Romeo's name due to a sponsorship deal) is a team with a long tradition in the sport and has emerged at the forefront of partnering with Codemasters and EA recently by also making available the Audi concept livery shown last year when the German car manufacturer announced its Formula 1 entry in 2026 with Sauber as its partner.

F1 22 will also be added to The Play List on March 2, 2023, making it available for subscribers to EA Play and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
