Square Enix used the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival 2024 in Tokyo to reveal details on the title’s next expansion, Dawntrail, as well as announce an open beta test for the MMO’s upcoming Xbox Series X|S port, which is planned to take place in February 2024.

“As hope’s light dawns once more, a hero looks to new horizons,” the official introduction to the expansion’s story reads. “Winds of opportunity bring a visitor from the far west, seeking the Warrior of Light’s aid in a rite of succession to determine Tural’s next ruler. Alongside Alphinaud, Alisaie, and Erenville, the Warrior of Light embarks upon a journey across the Indigo Deep. Should rumors be true, the contest may lead them to fabled gates of a city of gold.”

Tural is a new continent that expands the playable area of the game. It contains the coastal city of Tuliyollal as well as the futuristic town of Solution Nine, constructed by a completely different civilization. New friends and foes await players in these regions as they level up to the new cap of 100.

Dawntrail will come with a new job players can take on, the Pictomancer. A magical ranged DPS class, the Pictomancer wields a giant brush as a weapon. They bring their imaginations of stuff like creatures, weapons, and even landscapes into reality with these brushes, though this takes some time. To make them a bit more versatile, they also have access to some spells that can be cast instantaneously. Another new piece of content is the female Hrothgar race.

The expansion will have fresh additions to all parts of the MMO from dungeons and raids to gear and lifestyle content. On a more fundamental level, Dawntrail contains a graphical update for the game, allowing for more detailed character models that bring everyone’s avatars to even more life. A more in-depth dye system will allow players to better customize their characters as well.

Square Enix detailed plans for the ongoing content updates as well, which among other things will bring a new limited job to the game, the Beastmaster. In early April 2024, a crossover quest between Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy 16 will be released.

Dawntrail will be available in Summer 2024.
