Mechas are a wonderful invention of science-fiction, but they are mostly connected to stories of war and violence. Lightyear Frontier, which is out now on PC and Xbox Series X|S, takes a fresh and different approach to the machines – it uses them as farming tools.

Lightyear Frontier is an Early Access game costing $24.99 USD on Steam and the Xbox Store. However, subscribers to Xbox Game Pass can immediately play the game without paying any additional money, as the title is available in the library on Day 1. That’s perfect for trying out the peaceful life of a farmer on an alien world.

You can watch the launch trailer for the game below:

Players are free to explore this open-world planet alone or with up to three friends in co-op mode. An interesting aspect of Lightyear Frontier is that – just like more realistic titles like the Farming Simulator series – it doesn’t feature any combat. Instead, the experience is wholly focused on exploring, crafting, building, and farming.

There are some secrets to be uncovered in this strange world as well – buried beneath this toxic sludge are the keys to unravel the mysteries of the past and learn more about your new home.

As such, Lightyear Frontier is designed to be a tranquil experience right from the start – one in which you clean up nature in order to build a sustainable farm, and not destroy and exploit it. A message that’s important in our time just as much as the need to slow down and enjoy some breathtaking landscapes instead of finding and killing the next enemy.
