Owners of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack are in for a treat on January 17, 2024, as Nintendo has announced plans to release Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age on Switch via the membership on that day.

Nintendo released a trailer on this occasion, showcasing how the two games will look on Switch.

Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age were originally released on the Game Boy Advance in 2001 and 2002, respectively. A third entry into the series, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, came out for Nintendo DS in 2010, but is not included with this content drop.

Both the original and the first sequel were well received back in the day, counting among the very best games the GBA had to offer during its lifecycle.

In Golden Sun, players take up the role of a group of heroes who want to prevent the mysterious power of Alchemy from being unleashed on the world. Golden Sun: The Lost Age continues this story right from where the original title ended.

Players need to use their Psynergy spells to solve puzzles and triumph in battles as they delve into dungeons, caves, and other places, obtaining powerful new items and spells along the way. There are both pre-defined battles with an impact on the story and randomized encounters in the game.

Developed by Camelot Software Planning, Golden Sun was originally supposed to be a single game, but due to the storage limitations of the GBA cartridges the company decided to split it into two separate titles, enabling it to make its full vision reality without compromising on scale. Funnily enough the original concept for the game envisioned it as a Nintendo 64 title, though this changed after news broke that the GameCube would replace the older console. With the titles coming to Switch, the circle is finally closing.
