Better late than never, huh? Red Dead Redemption can be played at 60 frames per second on PS5 after patch 1.03 for the game launched. You can now select this option via a newly-added toggle when playing the game on Sony’s latest console through backwards compatibility, giving you truly the definitive Red Dead Redemption experience.

A port of the 2010 title from Rockstar Games was released for PS4 and Nintendo Switch earlier this year in August 2023, making the title available on the PS5 as well. A physical release is set for October 13, 2023.

Red Dead Redemption recently came out for PS4 and Switch.

While Red Dead Redemption has been available on Xbox Series X|S already – again, thanks to backwards compatibility – the 60 FPS toggle is something only owners of this new port can use, which is not available on Microsoft’s ecosystem.

A potential remastered version of Red Dead Redemption 2 may, however, find its way onto the Xbox Series X|S as well, at least according to Microsoft documents that were recently released as part of the ongoing legal battle between the company and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) around the proposed Activision Blizzard acquisition.

Patch 1.03 for the game introduced a variety of “general bug fixes, stability fixes and improvements” alongside the new 60 FPS toggle, which actually went unmentioned in the patch notes. Players have reported that the 60 FPS mode runs smoothly and stable on PS5. It's available on PS4 Pro as well.
