The highly-anticipated Resident Evil 4 Remake is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, letting fans old and new dive into an action-packed and scary adventure. Completely fresh visuals and a familiar story enhanced with some fresh content here and there, Resident Evil 4 Remake has completely hit the mark and will be a shining example of how remakes should be ideally for years to come.

Accompanying the game’s launch, Capcom has announced that The Mercenaries, a challenge mode, will be added to the game free of charge as DLC on April 7, 2023, on all platforms.

The Mercenaries was originally an unlockable game mode in Resident Evil 4, which would be playable after finishing the main story. It challenged players to kill as many enemies as possible inside a certain time limit and achieve combos to maximize their score. Pickups on the map allowed players to extend the time limit as well, further enhancing their capabilities to score as many points as possible.

To begin with, players could only pick Leon as their character, but were able to unlock additional fighters as they achieved better ranks. Each playable character had a unique weapon loadout to work with to survive the mode’s four stages. Naturally, killing bosses awarded more points than killing regular mobs.

Finishing The Mercenaries with a 5-star ranking unlocked the Handcannon for purchase in the main story. This required scoring over 60,000 points and is the highest achievable rank in the mode.

Capcom revealed that The Mercenaries would come to Resident Evil 4 Remake for free on April 7 in the title’s launch trailer.
