Capcom’s premier fighting game franchise is finally getting a new installment in 2023 with Street Fighter 6, following an announcement at December 8’s The Game Awards.

It will finally be launching on June 2, 2023 globally. The release date was actually leaked by the PlayStation Store earlier in the day, but we’ll pretend that never happened.

The new trailer, which culminated in the release date announcement, also showed off four characters being added to the game with Deejay, Manon, Marisa, and JP.

From the context we’re given in the trailer, we can assume Marisa will be a brutal grappler, and JP just might be the next inheritor of M. Bison’s Psycho Power that fights with a cane. Stylish.

Meanwhile, Manon is a stylish French fighter, and the Caribbean Deejay is finally back in the game, ready to fight with flair.

We also got some brand new looks in at the single player mode, including fighting with your avatar, the combination of the attacks you can give them, and some of the minigames and challenges you’ll be participating in.

It’s still early days, but it looks like an incredibly meaty adventure, and certainly the most robust single player Street Fighter content any game in the series has ever had.

Street Fighter 6 releases on June 2, 2023, but before that we’ll get to play a brand new Closed Beta session later this December, which is due to include characters not previously playable publicly.
