Dead Cells developer Motion Twin announced its new game Windblown at The Game Awards 2023. The fast-paced roguelike action platformer will launch into Early Access for PC in 2024 and will feature a co-op mode for up to three players.

You can find the animated announcement trailer – featuring a little bit of gameplay – created by French adult animation studio Bobbypills below:

Windblown has players take control of Leapers, who are fighting to protect The Ark from the deadly Vortex and its Sentinels. These warriors are fast as lightning and dash from one sky island to another as they defeat the Vortex’s minions and uncover secrets hidden around the open stages.

During each run, Leapers absorb the memories of the fallen to obtain new abilities and enhance their fighting prowess. Players can freely adapt their builds during a run by swapping between an array of different weapons they can pick up along the way – these get ever more powerful and complex as the players progress through a run, naturally.

Memorizing the attack and movement patterns of enemies as well as how to counter them with your own dazzling maneuvers will be a key to success.

Players can face the forces of the Vortex alone or in a team of three via the game’s co-op mode.

“We were craving a lightning-fast combat roguelite, but it simply didn't exist,” the team at Motion Twin, based in France, stated. “So, we rolled up our sleeves and crafted the game we yearned for; one that lets us dive into the action on our own, and with friends, whenever the mood (or too much pain) strikes!”

Unlike Dead Cells, Windblown features 3D visuals as well as a top-down view, making for a big change of perspective for the developer. Leapers and Sentinels look colorful and quite adorable on the first released screenshots from the game.
