Baldur's Gate 3: how to get a Moon Lantern in BG3
The Shadow-Cursed Lands are the definition of a hostile environment. Aside from a few safe havens like the Last Light Inn, you’ll be bombarded by the Shadow Curse as you traverse the landscape, which can wipe your party in no time if you’re not careful.
While you can ward it off a little with a regular torch, if you want to truly be safe, you’ll need to get your hands on a Moon Lantern. This will keep the Shadow Curse at bay as long as one party member is holding one, letting you freely roam the area. We’ll show you how to get a Moon Lantern so you can find all of Act 2’s secrets.

The easiest way to get a Moon Lantern is to head straight to Moonrise Towers once you arrive in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. After a narrative sequence, you’ll be tasked with helping Balthazar find the Nightsong across the lands, and you’ll be told to pick up the Moon Lantern in Balthazar’s chambers, where one is laying for you to use.
Once you have that, you can go back out into the Shadow-Cursed Lands and freely explore the area, picking up all the side quests and oddities you might find there, like the Strange Ox, and you could potentially even find a way to lift the Shadow Curse.
