Destiny 2 Lightfall: release time and how to pre-load
The next big expansion for Destiny 2 is almost here, with all sorts of cool new content coming to the sci-fi looter-shooter, but as with any MMO, such a momentous update comes with a lot of server downtime and potential delays. Still, Bungie has done its due diligence for this update and the Destiny 2 server downtime has officially started for this update a whole day ahead of time.
We’ll tell you exactly when they’re scheduled to come back online and when Destiny 2 Lightfall will be released.

The date is Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 9am PT, here’s the time you can start playing in your time zone:
- 9am PT
- 12pm ET
- 5pm GMT
- 6pm CEST
- 1am on March 1 ACT
This means that in the US you’ll have access to it pretty much as soon as you wake up on the west coast, and around lunchtime on the east. European gamers will have it unlocked for a solid evening gaming session, while those in Australia will have to wait just a little bit longer.
How to pre-load Destiny 2 Lightfall

Pre-loads for Lightfall are set to go live 24 hours before the scheduled launch time, so check the above list for when that is in your time zone. You’re going to want to get on it as soon as possible too, as it’s a large download.
Due to “an additional install package” that’s being downloaded on top of the usual Destiny 2 ones, PS4 and PS5 players have been told to have roughly 80GB of space free for Lightfall. Using that as a base and taking into account previous expansion’s file sizes, we can expect Xbox players to need roughly 90-100GB of space, and PC players will require 100-110GB on hand.
