Odin is easily the toughest summon you’ll have to fight in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Combat Simulator, and since it’s a level sync mission, it doesn’t matter how much progress you make or how much you level up – you’re not going to unlock a magic move that solves this fight for you, the only solution is dodge and weave.

In this guide we’re breaking down the party composition and strategy you should have in place while taking on Odin in Chadley’s Combat Simulator in FF7 Rebirth. Odin feels more like a puzzle than any other boss in the game, but his summon materia make completing this mission incredibly worthwhile. My team choice is Cloud, Tifa, and Yuffie. Odin doesn’t have any explicit elemental weaknesses to take care of, but hitting him with ATB moves regularly does increase your chance of getting away with it. This team is incredibly mobile, and if you equip Yuffie with a Healing Materia and linked Magnify Materia, you should be able to keep the party healthy.

How to beat Odin – FF7 Rebirth

Using Assess on Odin reveals some important information: you will be at an advantage if you land ATB attacks, evade attacks, and inflict detrimental status effects. So, if you have a high-level Poison Materia, that’ll help.

The main problem when fighting Odin is the Zantetsuken. When he uses the Gjallarhorn’s Warning, this is an indication that Zantetsuken is on the way. Gjallarhorn’s Warning only comes out when you have been consistently on the receiving end of his attacks, with either full hits or slightly mistimed blocks. The Precision Defense Focus Materia will increase the window for a perfect block, making it easier for even your computer-controlled party members to avoid taking damage. Perfect blocks and moving far away from Odin’s strikes will keep Gjallarhorn’s Warning, and Zantetsuken, at bay.

Either after a Stagger or when you’ve chipped away enough health, Odin will use Lord of the Blade which gives him massive buffs to his attack and defense. If you have an Enervation Materia, it’s a good time to use Deprotect.

Spatial Distortion will also effectively lock off half the battlefield following a Stagger, so watch for that too. If you’ve got a good strategy to deal damage during Stagger, then you should already have most of Odin’s health depleted following a Stagger, so you should summon a high-power creature, like Bahamut Arisen, and either stay back while using ranged attacks to charge ATB and summon attacks, or charge in and get the final bit of health.

How to avoid Odin’s Zantetsuken – FF7 Rebirth

This move can’t actually be avoided, but it can be prevented. Obviously avoiding attacks and dealing out your own is one way to prevent Zantetsuken from being used, but if you have an attack that can put Odin into hit stun during Gjallarhorn’s Warning, then you can fend off Zantetsuken for a bit longer.

Limit Breaks are obviously great for this, but Synergy Abilities work very well too. If you don’t have anything like that available, you should go all-out during Gjallarhorn’s Warning regardless and aim to try and put Odin into a Stagger state, which is another way to extend the amount of time you have to live in this battle.
