Final Fantasy 16 is available now on PS5 and features a new real-time combat system where you can expertly use your Eikon skills while also defending and healing yourself. Yes, you heard right: no more healers, just you, and all the potions you’ll find in your pocket once you start a battle.

That’s why you’ll want to carry as many potions as possible with you all the time, while also making sure they have maximum healing potency. Read below for tips about how to get more slots for your potions, and how to maximize their effects.

How to expand your potions inventory in Final Fantasy 16

Final Fantasy 16 locks some of the most important upgrades and features behind side quests, which are appropriately marked with a “+” sign on the world map. As with unlocking a Chocobo mount in Final Fantasy 16, if you want to increase the number of potions you can carry across the game, you’ll need to complete two different side quests.

Square Enix

The first mission is called Weird Science. Meet Owain, Mid’s assistant - in their laboratory at the hideaway, and he’ll tell you about his dangerous experiments. That’s around the second half of the game, roughly 30 hours in, if you have done all the side quests until then.

The quest requires you to beat Bomb King in a hunting mission. If you can’t find him, this monster is at the Crock, south of The Dragon’s Aery Obelisk. It might not be on your map as it’s slightly off the golden path.

Square Enix

The second mission is called Even Weirder Science, again from Owain. This straightforward quest requires you to search for three spherical echoes, which are clearly marked on the map. Once you find these enemies, you’ll have your “inventory maximized” - that’s what the game tells you after completing the quest.

These are the upgrades you can secure by completing the two missions:

• Potion 4 -> 6 -> 8
• High Potion 3 -> 4 -> 5
• Strength Tonic 2 -> 3 -> 4
• Stoneskin Tonic 2 -> 3 -> 4

How to increase consumables’ effects in Final Fantasy 16

On top of increasing your potion slots, Final Fantasy 16 also allows you to improve the effectiveness of consumables. You can do this with two simple side quests.

The first is called The Root of the Problem, which triggers in the second half of the game.

At the Hideaway, botanist Nigel will ask you to find three Morganbeard flowers. That should be easy, as their location will be marked on your map.

The second quest is called Please Sir, Can I Have Some Morbol, and once completed, a screen will pop up confirming that you have “maximized” your consumables’ power.

You’ll be required to face a boss fight with a level 35 Morbol. This monster hides in Rosaria, near the Three Reeds Obelisk - specifically, at the location called Whispering Waters.
