Fortnite patch notes: Most Wanted brings a free skin in v23.40
Fortnite update v23.40 is here and it introduces some wild new mechanics into the game. Not only can you now complete heists to earn free cosmetic items, but a GTA-style heat system has been introduced that will make you a target in matches. If that wasn’t enough there are new weapons on their way, along with some old favorites being put back in the loot pool.

Fortnite patch notes: Fortnite Most Wanted
Fortnite Most Wanted will see you heisting new exotic weapons.
About 10 weeks into this season some more plot has finally been injected into the world. A new organization known as the “Cold Blooded” syndicate has taken over and has locked away some cool loot in vaults around the map. It’ll be your job to hunt down the NPC Cold Blooded Bosses to get their Vault Keycards, at which point you can break open a vault and steal the loot inside.
Fortnite patch notes: New exotic weapons
These new Fortnite exotic weapons can be found in the Cold Blooded vaults.
But what’s inside those vaults? This new selection of exotic weapons, which are highly powerful versions of standard weapons. Here’s the full list:
- Heisted Breacher Shotgun – deals increased damage to walls and objects.
- Heisted Explosive Assault Rifle – has explosive ammo.
- Heisted Accelerant Shotgun – move speed and fire-rate increase as you deal damage.
- Heisted Run N Gun SMG – infuses you with the Slap status and self-reloads as you sprint.
- Heisted Blink Mag SMG – gives the Zero Point Dash ability after reloading.
Fortnite patch notes: Gold Blooded Ace free skin
A new Fortnite free skin is available in the form of this Gold Blooded Ace skin.
Along with all this are the Most Wanted quests, which involve performing heists, killing bosses, and using the weapons stashed away in vaults.
Complete enough of them and your “Infamy” will be raised, letting you claim cosmetic rewards, including a new Fortnite skin. You don’t need the Battle Pass to access these, so everything is completely free.
Some of the rewards on offer are:
- Cash Stash back bling
- The Vault Guardian pickaxe
- Gold Blooded Ace skin
Fortnite patch notes: Heat levels
Your Fortnite heat level will make you visible to nearby players, but give you some buffs too.
If you’re a force to be reckoned with in games, then prepare to become a target with the new heat system. As you eliminate opponents and steal from vaults your heat level will increase, as it does you’ll become visible on the minimap to nearby players and members of Cold Blooded will become hostile.
It’s not all bad though, as you get boosts to your movement speed, health regeneration, and shield regeneration as your heat increases.
Fortnite patch notes: New Reality Augments
Four new Reality Augments are coming in Fortnite patch 23.40.
Reality Augments are a new feature for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 that let you add modifiers to your character during a match. Four new Augments have been added, here’s what they do:
- Exotic Grab Bag – receive a random Heisted Exotic weapon.
- Sniper Surplus – your Sniper Rifles have one extra ammo in their magazine.
- Keymaster – grants two keys for opening Holo-Chests.
- Last Shot – the last two bullets of your Pistol’s magazine deal bonus damage.
