Developed by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto is one of the biggest entertainment products in the world. As a series, it revolutionalized the open-world genre. 

Placing you in the shoes of various criminals across fictional recreations of iconic American cities - New York, Miami, and Los Angeles - you rise through the ranks of the criminal underworld and evade the law. 

Originally, the series was a top-down game focused on driving, but it evolved into a 3D sandbox game where you can drive, shoot, explore, complete missions, play minigames, and buy property. In GTA Online, players can do all of this in multiplayer, complete with co-op heists. 

In GTA 5's single-player, heists were a big focus. The first game in the series where the player could switch between three protagonists, the heist missions required them to jump between each character's perspective to see the robbery from different angles. 

GTA 6 is the next game in the series, rumored to be based on a fictional recreation of Miami and featuring two protagonists - a Bonnie and Clyde-style duo, with a playable woman for the first time since the series turned 3D. 

The series has sold over 170 million units.
