When it comes to online security there are a lot of different ways to keep yourself safe. From devising a tough password to installing a VPN, there are plenty of methods to protect your various accounts. In Fortnite’s case, there is no shortage of bad actors out there looking to take accounts full of V-Bucks, skins, and emotes to turn around and sell them online.

Two-factor authentication, or 2FA for short, is one of the easiest ways you can protect yourself against such an attack. This verifies your identity every time you log in, typically by sending a code to your smartphone that you must enter on your PC or console. This means that even if a hacker gets hold of your password, they won’t be able to access your account.

If that’s not incentive enough, then how about some Fortnite rewards? Activating 2FA on your Epic Games/Fortnite account will earn you a free emote in Fortnite Battle Royale, and several items in Fortnite Save The World. On top of that, you’ll be able to compete in competitions like the Fortnite x MrBeast $1 million event.

To enable 2FA just follow these simple steps:

  • Go to your Account Settings on your Epic Games account, then navigate to the “Password & Security” tab.
  • Scroll to the bottom and you’ll see three options for 2FA. You can choose either email, SMS, or Authenticator App options. Email will send you an email to authenticate, SMS will send you a text message, and an Authenticator App requires one of several smartphone apps.

Using a third-party app is typically more secure than email, as it runs on a separate system. If you opt for this choice, you have the choice of four apps to use:

  • Google Authenticator
  • LastPass Authenticator
  • Microsoft Authenticator
  • Authy

Once everything’s set up, open Fortnite and you’ll be able to claim your rewards after you’ve logged in.
