Fortnite’s next major patch is here, and update 24.40 is a big one, introducing ranked mode to Battle Royal and Zero Build. While it has controversially removed trios matches, the new ranked mode promises to add a new layer to Fortnite’s main modes. This is a big feature with a lot of detail, so we’ll cover it all in our full Fortnite 24.40 patch notes so you can lay out your path to the top.

Fortnite Ranked explained – Fortnite 24.40 patch notes

Fortnite Ranked ranks

Fortnite Ranked has 18 ranks for you to progress through.

When matchmaking the game’s main menu, you now activate a new “Ranked” switch which will matchmake you with players of similar ranks to you. When playing for the first time after this patch, you need to play one match in Ranked and you’ll be given a starting rank based on your recent performance in matches.

The ranks work as follows:

  • Bronze 1-3
  • Silver 1-3
  • Gold 1-3
  • Platinum 1-3
  • Diamond 1-3
  • Elite
  • Champion
  • Unreal

If you reach “Unreal” rank, you will no longer be able to rank down for the remainder of the season and you’ll get access to a leaderboard ranking all the Unreal players instead.

If you log into Fortnite for the very first time after this update, you will need to “Outlast 500 players” in non-ranked matches before you can compete in Ranked games.

Starting with the Console Champions Cup on May 23, competitive Fortnite events will now have rank requirements to enter. In Console Champions Cup’s case, you’ll need to be Platinum 1 or higher.

Fortnite Ranked – How to rank up

Fortnite Ranked info

Fortnite patch v24.40 lets you play Ranked in Solos, Duos, or Squads.

As you may expect, two major factors will determine how much rank progress you make in a match:

  • Your overall placement
  • The number of eliminations you scored

However, the “number of eliminations” factor is further broken down, as eliminations late in a match will be more valuable than those early, and the rank of the player you eliminated will also be taken into account.
