Minecraft 1.20 release time and how to download
Minecraft 1.20: The Trails & Tales Update is almost here, adding a bunch of cool features like an archeology system, two new mobs, and two new wood types. You can check the full Minecraft 1.20 patch notes at that link, but the burning question is when can people start playing it?
We’ll tell you exactly when the Trails & Tales update is expected to go live, and how you can download it.
What time does Minecraft 1.20 release?
Minecraft 1.20 is set for release at 10am ET on June 7, 2023, but based on previous updates, it could take a little longer. Assuming there are no major issues, you can expect the update to be live by 1pm ET at the very latest.

- 3pm BST
- 4pm CEST
- 7:30pm IST
- 11pm JST
- 12am AEST (June 8)
How to download Minecraft 1.20
Once the update is live, if you play on PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch then your game will automatically update before you can launch it. All you have to do is wait a little bit and you’ll be good to go.
If you play on Bedrock Edition on PC, then your game should also update automatically, but in rare cases, you may need to manually make the game update on the Microsoft Store or the Xbox desktop app if you have linked your accounts.
If you play on Java Edition on PC, then you’ll need to make sure that you have selected the “Latest Release” on the launcher from the dropdown menu in the bottom left corner – it will be the one marked by a grass block icon. Click play and the update will download before the game launchers.
