The Lunar New Year has begun in Pokémon Go, marking an annual celebration we’ve come to expect in the mobile game. Appropriately for the Year of the Dragon, this edition’s theme is fully draconic – and includes the debut of Drampa, which very fittingly is modeled after the serpentine dragons found in East Asian mythology.
Taking place from February 5 to 11, 2024, Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed has several types of Research Tasks in store for you, including a paid Timed Research that guarantees an encounter with the newcomer, Drampa.

Pokémon Go Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed – all Timed Research Tasks
Available for $1.99 USD via the in-app store, the Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed Timed Research will be available until the event ends on February 11, 2024, at 8pm local time. You’ll need to complete all associated tasks and claim the rewards before this time runs out. Luckily, it’s quite a short Research, as you can see below.

- Power up 5 Dragon-type Pokémon: Bagon
- Spin 10 PokéStops or Gyms: Axew
- Catch 15 Dragon-type Pokémon: Skrelp
- Finish all tasks in this step: Lucky Egg x2, Stardust x2,000, and XP x4,000

- Evolve a Dragon-type Pokémon: Goomy
- Power up 10 Dragon-type Pokémon: Deino

- Finish all tasks in this step: Drampa, Stardust x4,000, and XP x8,000
Pokémon Go Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed – all Field Research Tasks
Field Research Tasks are available in the same time window as the Timed Research, though you can access them for free by spinning the photodiscs at PokéStops during the event. They also won’t vanish after the event is over, remaining available to complete as long as you’re not exceeding your maximum limit of stored tasks.

- Make 3 Great Throws: Darumaka
- Make an Excellent Throw: Gible
- Win a raid: Dratini, Deino, or Goomy

- Power up 5 Dragon-type Pokémon: Skrelp or Tyrunt
- Spin 5 PokéStops or Gyms: Poké Ball x5 or Great Ball x2
