This month, there has been a new seven-star Tera raid in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet every week, and next up is the turn of Hisuian Samurott. Usually a Dark and Water type, it will have a Water Tera type, meaning that its attacks hit extra hard. If you want to grab Hisuian Samurott for yourself, here’s how you can catch one.

When does the Hisuian Samurott raid start?

Like most seven-star raids, the Hisuian Samurott will be available for two weekends, but after this, it will be gone for good.

• Move set – Ceaseless Edge, X-Scissor, Razor Shell, Sacred Sword, Focus Energy, Swords Dance

Hisuian Samurott’s hidden ability is Sharpness, which boosts the power of slicing moves by 50%. As such, it uses many of these moves, which come with a variety of different elemental types. Razor Shell here will be particularly devastating as with the tera boost, and sharpness boost, it is a 210 base attack move. With great type coverage, it is difficult to counter Hisuian Samurott, but we have a few ways to take it down.

Best counters for Hisuian Samurott – Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The most important factor in the Hisuian Samurott fight will be withstanding its barrage of attacks, as it can hit very strongly. Here’s what we recommend.

Miraidon

Miraidon – Level 100

• Nature – Bold
• Ability – Hadron Engine
• Item – Big Root
• Tera type – Electric
• Move set – Calm Mind, Parabolic Charge, Electro Drift, Charge

Water is only weak to Grass- and Electric-type attacks, but luckily Samurott only uses Bulldoze on turn one, and doesn’t use Ground moves after this. This means we can freely use Miraidon here, which has a number of great ways to boost its Electric-type attacks. Its ability, Hadron Engine, and the move Charge both help to boost Electric-type attacks, and Electro Drift is super powerful against weak enemies like Samurott. Parabolic Charge will recover health while also dealing Electric damage. We added Calm Mind to further boost its special attack but it likely won’t be needed.

Clodsire

Clodsire – Level 100

• Nature – Impish
• Ability – Water Absorb
• Item – Leftovers
• Tera type – Poison
• Move set – Mud-Slap, Chilling Water, Helping Hand, Acid Spray

Clodsire won’t be able to hit very hard, but it does come with the perfect moveset for this raid. Most of Samurott’s attacks aren’t 100% accurate, and so you can help out your teammates with Mud-Slap making them more likely to miss than hit. Chilling Water will drop Samurott’s monstrous attack even through the barrier, and if paired with a great special attacker like Miraidon, Acid Spray will help to drop its special defenses. Helping Hand will double its teammates' attack, and Water Absorb stops it from being hit with Razor Shell.

Alolan Ninetales

Alolan Ninetales – Level 100

• Item – Light Clay
• Tera type – Ice
• Move set – Aurora Veil, Charm, Freeze Dry, Nasty Plot

Snow Warning will automatically boost Ninetales defense as soon as it enters battle, and Aurora Veil will protect Ninetales and its teammates. Despite being an Ice-type move, Freeze Dry will deal super-effective damage on the Water-type Samurott, while Nasty Plot improves Ninetales’ damage output. The final move we added here, Charm, will harshly drop Samurott’s attack to help keep everyone healthy.

Iron Hands

Iron Hands – Level 100

• Nature – Impish
• Ability – Quark Drive
• Item – Big Root
• Tera type – Electric Terrain
• Move set – Drain Punch, Belly Drum, Electric Terrain, Thunder Punch

Iron Hands is a staple of raids, and Hisuian Samurott is another perfect target for the future Hariyama. It has a monstrous HP and Defense stat, and resists two of Samurotts main attacks, Water- and Dark-type. While Iron Hands isn’t that strong, the boost it gains from Belly Drum makes it very powerful, and it can use Drain Punch to get its health back. Thunder Punch will be the stronger form of attack here, as it’s super effective against Water.
