In any good open world game, half the battle is crossing the terrain. You can often unlock fast travel points at almost every key area across the world, but getting there is the real journey, and that’s no different in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, the newest generation of Pokémon games.

In these games you will often be faced with rocky terrain and hazardous cliffs. Luckily you don’t need to fear fall damage or anything like that, but getting back up is much tougher than getting down. Luckily, there’s a bit of an exploit for that.

Scarlet & Violet are plagued with a few choice bugs and performance issues currently, but there are some fun bonuses to a game that isn’t entirely polished – you just need to look at the double run speed trick for that.

And just like that little trick, there is a method you can use to climb hills and slopes with ease, as pointed out by popular Dark Souls content creator Zullie The Witch.

While riding either Koraidon or Miraridon – the new game’s two ridable legendary Pokémon – you can simply face away from a slope and jump backward in order to climb it.

It seems the sliding animation only really kicks in if you’re facing toward a slope – if you’re looking down, you should be able to continually jump and move backward while facing away from the slope in order to go right on up.

This can be used to traverse a bunch of areas with ease, allowing you to take a shortcut up most hills instead of running around looking for a path that will take you there. Of course, sheer cliffs and drops are still insurmountable, as you at least need to be able to put your feet on the ground in order to chain jumps together.

This is a simple to perform trick and just might speed up some of your Pokémon hunts while playing Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Make sure to check our best gym order guide to make your way through the game quickly and smoothly.
