Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC: How to evolve Dipplin

Use this guide to evolve your Duraludon into an Archaludon in Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disk

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk is finally here, and it brings a few new Pokémon to the game, in addition to a whole bunch of returning Pokemon. One new Pokemon is actually an evolution to a Pokémon that was introduced in the last DLC, the Teal Mask: Dipplin.

Dipplin gets a brand-new evolution in The Indigo Disk called Hydrapple, becoming the first Pokémon in the Applin line to get a third evolution stage. It’s not tough to evolve Dipplin into Hydrapple, but there are quite a few steps to get there.

This guide will tell you everything you need to know about how to evolve Dipplin into Hydrapple in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disk.

How to find Dipplin – The Indigo Disk Pokémon DLC

Before you get yourself a Hydrapple, you’ll need to get your hands on a Dipplin. The easiest way to get a Dipplin in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is to evolve an Applin into Dipplin in the last DLC, The Teal Mask.

We have a dedicated guide for how to get a Dipplin in Scarlet and Violet, so follow that for specifics, but the general gist of it is that you’ll need to get a Syrupy Apple from Kitakami and use it on an Applin.

Once you have your Dipplin, it’s time to start the process of evolving it. The method for evolving Dipplin into Hydrapple is fairly simple — you simply need to level up Dipplin once while it knows the move Dragon Cheer.

Unfortunately, Dipplin does not learn Dragon Cheer as a level up move, so the only way to learn it is via TM. To get the Dragon Cheer TM, you have to complete Drayton’s Elite Four trial, and defeat him in battle. After the battle, he will reward you with TM 226, Dragon Cheer.

Once you’ve obtained the TM, you can also craft it at the TM Machine at any Pokémon Center, where you’ll need 1500 League Points and a small collection of bits and bobs from Pokémon drops.

Teach Dragon Cheer to your Dipplin, then use a Rare Candy or battle using the Pokémon to level it up once. Once it’s leveled up, it should evolve into Hydrapple, where it will learn Fickle Beam, a powerful Dragon-type move that sometimes doubles in power.
