We’re mowing through our Resident Evil 4 remake walkthrough at the same incredible speed that you’re plowing through the game, and Chapter 6 is one of the most linear chapters yet. Following the cabin siege, Leon and Ashley need to find a new way out of the village.

Escape from the village and The Bella Sisters – RE4 Remake

This next section is a pretty linear selection of combat corridors, but that doesn’t mean you should let your guard down. Follow the path and make sure to restock at the merchant you come across. Once you go through the double gates, it’s fight time.

There are Ganados high up on the rafters that will throw things at you, so take those out with your rifle in advance, and watch for a bullhead foe too.

Once you’ve taken them all down in the first area, you will have the opportunity to find a Clockwork Castellan, and the next will be incredibly quiet, save for two roaming Ganados. Once they’re down, turn your attention to the large building in the center of the area. The downstairs doors are locked, but you can get in by heading upstairs, and then jumping through the hole in the floor – make Ashley hide in the locker first. We recommend getting the locks off the doors now, to make this next section easier. Go to the wall with the Checkpoint Crank on the shelf to get things started.

The Bella Sisters will burst through the wall – you might remember these twins from the original game. Each carries a chainsaw, and each is a tough opponent. You’ll need to stay mobile through this whole area while taking down the onslaught of Ganados. Grab as much ammo as you can, make distance, use grenades, and don’t forget to use your shotgun up close, and your rifle from a distance. You’ll get through eventually.

Once the horde is down, you can grab Ashley and use the Checkpoint Crank on the large gate in this area. Once you drop down the hole in the roof of the building behind the gate, you won’t be able to return, so make sure to pick up ammo and treasures first.

Flee from the villagers – RE4 Remake

Bitores Mendez and his crew have caught up with you. He’ll be chasing as you run through this area with Ashley. If Mendez grabs Ashley, it’s an instant fail for this section. Just run past as many enemies as possible, using the explosive barrels on the trail to clear out the horde so you can sprint past. You succeed in this section by running through, not taking out every enemy. Once you get to the wooden scaffolding on the cliffside, you’ll be safe.

There’s a big barn and a merchant up ahead. Scrounge for ammo and make sure you’re ready for the fight ahead. 

Bitores Mendez boss fight – RE4 Remake

As you walk upstairs, you’ll be confronted by Mendez, the Mayor that has been following you throughout the chapter. This is the final fight of the village section, and a tough one. You need to make sure you don’t walk into the fire in the building, while fighting him. His weakpoint is his eye, which is on his back.

For the first phase you should head upstairs, where you can find ammo and resources for the fight. You can also parry and dodge his attacks thanks to QTEs while up here. You should aim for his long spine, which will make him keel over, reveal his eye. Blast away at it with your weapons, or you can use R2 for a knife strike.

Eventually you will dismember his spine, and he will become a freaky torso, hanging around the place. He will occasionally pick up red barrels to throw at you, which you can shoot to detonate. He will also throw flaming debris, which you must run and strafe to avoid. In this section you should just focus on unloading your weapons. Blast him with pistol and rifle bullets from a distance, and nail him with the shotgun when he comes close. Watch for dodge QTEs, too.

If you keep shooting and healing, you’ll eventually take down Bitores Mendez. You can take his fake eye as a prize. Follow the path up ahead and you’ll be locked in the castle, ending Chapter 6.
