Respawn is “not happy” with aim assist in Apex Legends

Aim assist is a controversial topic in Apex Legends

In most games, there would be no debate about whether mouse and keyboard or controller players have the advantage, but it’s not so simple with Respawn’s battle royale shooter.

In fact, many PC players have opted to use a controller to take advantage of the generous aim assist on console. On the flip side, PC players can perform movement tricks that console players can only dream of.

During a recent showcase about Apex Legends’ next season, Ignite, Respawn admitted it isn’t happy with how things currently are.

Answering a question from a creator, senior design director Evan Nikolich said the team is looking at what it can do to better balance aim assist.

Of course, it’s a delicate area. If they reduce aim assist too far, console players will feel like they’re not able to compete. Whichever way they go, they risk alienating a portion of the playerbase.

It doesn’t seem like the change is coming any time soon, however. Tweaks will happen over the “next couple of years”, according to Nikolich.
