Baldur’s Gate 3 is now out on Xbox Series X|S
The release date for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X|S has been revealed at this year’s The Game Awards, just as developer Larian Studios promised: Owners of the Microsoft console may experience the acclaimed CRPG starting right now, just in time for the holidays. Why go to church when you can worship Shadowheart instead, right?
Baldur’s Gate 3 came out for PC in August and for PS5 in September 2023. The Xbox version is late due to Microsoft’s policy of forcing complete feature parity on the Series X and S. Larian has previously revealed that split-screen multiplayer was difficult to implement on the Series S, which delayed the launch of the highly anticipated game on both Xbox versions. Microsoft even jumped in to help the Belgian studio out with optimizing the game for the weaker version of its console.

Ultimately, Microsoft made an exception to its policy for Baldur’s Gate 3, allowing the game to come to Series S without split-screen co-op, though both parties clarified afterwards that they were still working on getting the feature implemented.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been nominated for eight awards at The Game Awards 2023 and has been a stand-out success even in this exceptionally strong year for video games.
With the Xbox edition finally at hand, the title will finally be available for all current-gen platforms aside from Nintendo Switch – but there is no tech magic to get the game to run on that console.
